Last week, Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson updated constituents on renovations to Cooper Riverside Park — Mobile’s only waterfront park.

According to Stimpson, the city is finalizing improvements to the 401 feet of bulkhead at the edge of the Mobile River. In addition to adding 60 feet along the water’s edge, the project is removing debris, correcting erosion issues and stabilizing the bulkhead.

After the work on the bulkhead is finished the following park enhancement projects will begin:

  • Upgrade the landscaping and hardscaping throughout the park
  • New sea wall
  • Reconfiguring of the park to create a “great lawn” space, for concerts and other events
  • Remodeled restrooms at the park and other enhancements

“This transformative park upgrade will help create a stunning gateway to downtown’s waterfront. Like so many of the projects happening throughout the city, this would not be possible without the support of the City Council and Gov. Kay Ivey, who has allocated millions of dollars toward the restoration of the city’s riverfront through the GOMESA Program.”
