The City of Mobile will soon have a new assessment of every road inside city limits.

Mayor Sandy Stimpson said the city council approved its first Citywide Street Assessment since the newly annexed areas of West Mobile officially became part of the city. This is just the second time the city has ever had this kind of assessment done.

The city believes the assessment of roads across Mobile will give officials unbiased data about the current conditions of the roads, critical to discussing future infrastructure projects.

With input from citizens and stakeholders, this kind of data about the condition of our roads has helped the city prioritize resurfacing projects. More than $17 million worth of road resurfacing work is currently going on across all seven council districts including:

  • New paving
  • Spot drainage
  • Sidewalk repairs
  • Infrastructure improvements

As the city moves forward with future road resurfacing packages, the data collected in this assessment will help make informed choices and ensure tax dollars are making the greatest impact.
