NEW: At least 2 Alabama Winn-Dixies will soon become Aldi’s
Reading time: 2 minutes
Since Aldi announced it was buying out the parent company of Winn-Dixie last August, folks have been wondering which Winn-Dixies would be on the chopping block.
Almost a year later, we’re starting to find out.
The Bama Buzz has confirmed two Alabama Winn-Dixies will soon become Aldi grocery stores. Keep reading to find out which ones—and when.
Northport
Word on the street was the Northport Winn-Dixie would be among the first to transition to an Aldi—something we confirmed with a spokesperson for Southeastern Grocers.
“Yes, the Winn-Dixie located at 10 Mcfarland Blvd. will convert to a new ALDI store to best support the Tuscaloosa community”
Meredith Hurley, Southeastern Grocers
We don’t have a lot of details yet, but we do know the closure is happening sometime soon—mid-July. Current Winn-Dixie employees will get first dibs on jobs at the new Aldi, or the option to transfer to another store nearby.
The representative didn’t have any information about an open date for the new Aldi store, saying conversation plans were still being finalized.
Pinson
Our friends over at Bham Now confirmed a similar plan for the Pinson Winn-Dixie. That store will close in mid-August for its conversion. We confirmed this via Aldi, where a spokesperson elaborated on why the stores are transitioning to Aldis:
“Customers can expect a quick, easy shopping experience with great products at the lowest possible prices. Our smaller stores are stocked with only the items customers need so they can get in and out, and our award-winning exclusive brands help shoppers save up to 40% on their groceries without sacrificing quality.”
