As reported by The Flor-Ala, Court Street Books will be an independent bookstore in downtown Florence. Karmen Somers and Dr. Charles Wayne Melvin, who founded Tennessee Valley Pediatrics, are the book-lovers behind Court Street Books.

After opening their office, they ended up with an extra building. They had been wanting to open a bookstore, and they decided that this was the perfect spot to do it.

The new bookstore, located on South Court Street, will carry new and used books, hold author signings and provide space for book clubs. Plus, they plan to partner with local libraries and the University of North Alabama. In other words, they take the concept of community seriously.

“Our vision is really just community…through books, through talking about books—you know, words are powerful.”

Karmen Somers, owner, Court Street Books

Court Street Books won’t just be a bookstore, though.

  • Children’s section
  • Book club + meeting space
  • Coffee bar with coffee from local roasters
  • Hangout areas
