Toomer’s Corner getting new crosswalk system
Reading time: 1 minute

What was once an April Fool’s joke from the city of Auburn will soon become a reality.
The city recently announced a new crosswalk system will be installed this summer at the popular Toomer’s Corner connecting downtown to the Auburn University campus.
Here’s what you need to know:
- New X-crossing, or pedestrian scramble, format
- Beginning Saturday, July 7
- No right turn on red for any vehicles
This will be implemented at the intersection of College Street and Magnolia Street.

The city said they are testing out the new system, hoping to make navigation around the area easier and safer for everyone.
Here’s how it will work:
- A pedestrian will press the button on the sidewalk to activate the crossing system.
- All lights turn red + traffic will stop in every direction.
- Pedestrians will cross in any direction all at once with no traffic moving.
- Traffic will resume as normal.
The city said it will closely monitor the situation during a trial period and make changes as needed.
