The city of Tuscaloosa has confirmed a new First Watch location will be taking over the old Red Lobster building in the McFarland Plaza.

District 7 Councilman Cassius Lanier made this announcement after there were multiple speculations about what may be taking over the previous Red Lobster building. This is just a little over two years after Red Lobster shut down July of 2024 due to bankruptcy.

Here’s what we know so far:

  • Location: 2620 McFarland Blvd East, Tuscaloosa, AL, 35404 in the former Red Lobster building
  • Hours: Established locations hours are typically 7AM-2:30PM daily + closed on Thanksgiving + Christmas. This location is expected to have the same operating hours.
  • Opening date: TBA

What to expect at First Watch

First Watch launched in California more than 40 years ago before expanding to over 600 locations across the country. The restaurant is described as an “American day time dining restaurant” that serves delicious breakfast, brunch + lunch.

Their menu favorites include:

  • Million Dollar Bacon
  • Floridian French Toast
  • Avocado Toast
  • Chickichanga
  • Purple Haze drink

There are currently seven First Watch locations across Alabama but this will be the first in the Tuscaloosa/Northport area.
