The Monkey Bar is set to open in early August and is located in the building of an old bank in the heart of downtown Fairhope. There are three small businesses: Five Gold Monkeys, Dukes Clothier and the newest addition, The Monkey Bar. The owner of Five Gold Monkeys, Ellen Waller Semple, is a designer by trade and saw the potential in the building from the very start.

The back of the building was home to the old bank’s drive-thru and Semple thought of the amazing idea of creating an outdoor bar and event space. She envisioned a walk-up bar, relaxing ambiance, comfortable seating and an inviting atmosphere for conversation. This once drive-thru has been transformed into her exact vision.

Upon opening, the bar will be serving up craft beer and unique cocktails and in the near future hopes to offer food options such as tapas. They plan to make sports season even more exciting by hosting watch parties with mimosa bars, bloody mary bars, live music and possibly even food trucks.

“The Monkey Bar is meant to be a tropical inspired venue to mentally take you away from being in the middle of downtown with a laid back casual feel. We are hoping to lean more towards being a fun and easy spot for day drinking and be your first stop instead of your last.”
