New park with view of Mobile Bay, USS Alabama coming to Spanish Fort
Reading time: 2 minutes

Spanish Fort took another step in its initiative to create and improve parks across the city.
Last week, a groundbreaking event was held for Valor Park as construction has officially started. The new landmark park is being built right on Mobile Bay, providing great views of the water, downtown Mobile and the iconic USS Alabama Battleship.
“We’re going to have walking trails here. There’s going to be a natural shoreline as well. Safely, folks will be able to park here, fish off the shoreline if they’d like, probably more safely than sitting on the bridge as you see a lot of folks do here along the causeway. In addition, there’ll be a pavilion, picnic tables so if you want to come out, have birthday parties, that kind of thing here you can do that as well.”

Construction is supposed to last 180 days with the park opening by late summer.

The Valor Park project got funding assistance through a $3 million GOMESA grant. The money comes from federal offshore oil and gas leases paid to the state.
“This project was made possible by strategic planning with the City of Spanish Fort, Governor Kay Ivey, Commissioner Chris Blankenship, and numerous other local and state authorities. Their hard work and dedication have helped Spanish Fort receive GOMESA funding and matching support, allowing us to continue repairing and conserving coastal areas, increasing recreational access for the public, and improving infrastructure.”
City of Spanish Fort
The Valor Park project is part of the City of Spanish Fort’s long-term, multi-phase plan to use GOMESA funds and continuous business expansion to extend the city’s parks and recreational facilities.
Future park plans include:
- Spanish Fort Container Park
- Integrity Park sports complex renovations
- Spirit Park
- Loyalty Dog Park
