Historic downtown Wetumpka has taken on new life over the last decade and that theme continued this week as a new mural has been unveiled on Hill Street.

Artist Chris Johnson of Georgia created the mural which celebrates the “natural beauty, historic charm and vibrant community” of Wetumpka. The goal is for people walking through the area to pause, snap photos and see the downtown district from a new perspective.

“Wetumpka is a lovely town and it was such a great experience to build on the city’s beautification efforts with this mural. The postcard theme allowed me to combine the vast array of things that make Wetumpka a special place to live into one artistic piece. This mural really hit the mark, adding a pop of color to downtown and creating a photo opportunity for visitors. I would invite everyone to come spend the day and see all that Alabama’s City of Natural Beauty has to offer.”

The mural is located on The Lofts at Bridge & Hill. Its at the downtown intersection near the historic First National Bank building and across from Grumpy Dog and Frios.

“Our vision has always been to energize downtown by creating an active and welcoming corner. This mural is a key part of that effort. We are grateful for the support and leadership of Main Street Wetumpka in helping make our community an even better place to live, work, and shop.”

According to the Main Street Wetumpka organization, the mural was commissioned from grant funds with support coming from Main Street Alabama.

“This mural represents the power of partnership. With support from Main Street Alabama and the dedication of local property owners and artists, we can continue building momentum in downtown Wetumpka. Public art plays a vital role in creating energy, encouraging foot traffic, and enhancing the overall experience for everyone who visits.”
