New semi-professional soccer team coming to Dothan
Reading time: 2 minutes
This is a score for Dothan. A new semi-professional soccer team is making its way to the Circle City, and we won’t have to wait long to watch them play. Here’s what you need to know.
The new Dothan FC
Similar to the newly-launched Huntsville City FC, Dothan’s new team will be dubbed the “Dothan F.C.” (football club).
The team will play at Rip Hewes Stadium, home of football teams the Dothan Wolves and the Northside Methodist Knights.
According to the WDHN, Dothan F.C. will play its first season in spring 2024, April-July.
“We’re excited about it. It’ll be in a time of year when no other sports will be played there, and so it gets us an extra use of the facility.”
Mark Saliba, Mayor of Dothan (WDHN)
The team has been approved, and is starting out with a budget of $500K.
“We’re not just coming here to participate, we’re going to try to bring winning soccer to the community. Nothing gets the community excited…better than a winning sports team.”
Steve Donner, President, Dothan F.C.
Other semi-professional soccer teams in Alabama
Dothan F.C. will be Alabama’s third semi-professional soccer team.
In the Magic City, the Birmingham Legion FC has been drawing crowds since 2013. In the Rocket City, locals cheered on the new Huntsville City FC for the first time in 2023 at the newly renovated Joe Davis Stadium (once home to the Huntsville Stars, a minor league baseball team).
We can’t wait to cheer on another talented Alabama soccer team!
