New steel Facility in Rainbow City among high-dollar building permits

This past week, 14 new building permits were issued for construction projects statewide exceeding $1 million. These mostly included projects in Huntsville, Auburn and the Birmingham metro.

However, one of the permits issued this past week is for a new SMD Steel facility in Rainbow City.

A $5.1 million building permit was issued to Trent Thrasher Construction for a new facility in Rainbow City for SMD Steel. The facility currently under construction represents the second phase of a four-phase project that will eventually encompass 88 acres of industrial space and will total $55 million by the time the facility is complete.

The new space will house state of the art brand new equipment designed to enhance SMD’s productivity, speed and overall service quality.
