Next time you’re in Fairhope, look out for this cat
Reading time: 2 minutes
Her name is Fancy. Or Meow-Meow. Or Panther, Miss P for short. But she also answers to the classic, “Kitty.” She’s a darling little cat who spends her days soaking up sunshine and love from locals in the Fairhope French Quarter.
We’ve got some tips on finding her—and some fun stuff to check out in downtown Fairhope while you’re there, too.
Finding Fancy
Most Fairhope visitors have walked through the Fairhope French Quarter—an adorable collection of shops and restaurants circling one of the oldest Crepé Myrtles in Alabama. Possibly the most famous shop in the quarter is Panini Petes’s, a favorite of Food Network star Guy Fieri. And the folks at Panini Pete’s took in Fancy about 10 years ago.
Obviously, a cat can’t live inside a restaurant, but Fancy doesn’t seem to mind her digs outside. She’s got a little covered cat house, tons of blankies to curl up on and a little info card that lets folks know who she is.
Sometimes, you can even find a bag of treats to give her!
What else is going on in Fairhope
Visiting Fancy isn’t the only draw to Fairhope. The downtown area, where Fancy lives, is known for being a walkable city square, with tons of unique boutiques, jewelry shops, shoe stores and more.
They’ve got some world-class eats, including one of the best restaurants in North America, Plane and Level. The Hope Farm and Fairhope Brewing, just outside of downtown, are also among local favorites.
There’s also a rotating slate of monthly events. Here’s the list for July:
- July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 @ 5:30PM: Summer BINGO at Provision
- July 5 @ 6PM: First Friday Art Walk
- July 6, 13, 20 @ 2PM: Fairhope Foodie Walking Tours
- July 14 @ 6PM: July Sunday Supper at The Hope Farm
- July 14 & 28 @ 10AM: Mobile Bay Maker’s Market
