No. 1 Alabama softball advances to super regional, set to host LSU

Alabama was dominant in the circle during the Tuscaloosa Regional, allowing zero runs across three games to secure a spot in the super regional round.

The top-seeded Crimson Tide is one of 16 teams still competing for the national championship. This is the program’s 20th super regional appearance, the most for any school in NCAA history.

Next up: fellow SEC rival LSU.

LSU at Alabama softball

The Tide and Tigers did not face each other during the regular season, last squaring off in 2025 in Baton Rouge where LSU won two of three games.

Alabama is hoping to return to the Women’s College World Series after falling short last season. The Tide made it to Oklahoma City in 2023 + 2024 and have been in six of the last 10 final tournaments.

LSU is hoping to make its first WCWS appearance since 2017.

Here’s the schedule for the best-of-3 series in Tuscaloosa:

  • Friday, May 22: 6PM, ESPN2
  • Saturday, May 23: 2PM, ESPN
  • Sunday, May 24: If necessary, TBA

NCAA Softball Tournament

All four top seeds advanced to the super regional round including defending champion Texas.

The SEC has nine of the 16 remaining teams including:

  • Alabama
  • LSU
  • Texas
  • Oklahoma
  • Mississippi State
  • Arkansas
  • Florida
  • Tennessee
  • Georgia

Three super regionals feature all-SEC matchups which means a least three conference teams will make it to the WCWS.
