Orlando Health announced plans to acquire Regional Medical Center (RMC) Health System in Anniston, one of Northeast Alabama’s largest healthcare providers.

Coinciding with Orlando Health’s news release about its intentions, the City of Anniston, which owns the RMC, released statements saying they have entered into an agreement to join Orlando Health following approval by the Anniston City Council and the Regional Medical Center Healthcare Authority.

The purchase of the not-for-profit health system will include:

  • 375-bed medical center
  • Outpatient facilities
  • Specialty practices
  • 2,000+ team members and 200 physicians

“Today marks a defining moment for the City of Anniston and the future of healthcare in our region. After months of intentional work behind the scenes, we are proud to announce the acquisition of Regional Medical Center by Orlando Health — a nationally recognized leader in healthcare and, quite frankly, one of the best systems in the country.”

Orlando Health continues to expand

This is the second significant acquisition in Alabama by Orlando Health in the past three years.

In 2024, the regional private not-for-profit healthcare system that serves communities throughout the Southeast purchased Baptist Health in Birmingham.

Today, Orlando Health’s Alabama Region includes:

  • More than 1,700 licensed beds
  • 58 primary and specialty care clinics
  • 2,600 affiliated physicians
  • 6,100+ team members.

“RMC is an important addition to Orlando Health’s growing presence in Alabama and strengthens our ability to serve patients across the region. By bringing RMC into the Orlando Health system, we can expand services and collaborate with physicians and team members to enhance access to high-quality care for communities throughout Northeast Alabama.”
