Huntsville metro nears record snowfall

While the biggest snowstorm in Alabama’s history did happen in March, it’s still rare to see any kind of accumulation during the month.

But people in the northern part of the state saw the snow start to stick around 10AM Monday and it really started to stack up.

In the Huntsville area, the National Weather Service recorded at least one inch of snow in several places including:

  • Triana, near Brindley Mountain: 2 inches
  • New Market: 1.8 inches
  • Huntsville: 1.5 inches
  • Union Grove: 1 inch

The measurement in Triana matched Huntsville’s official daily record of 2 inches set on March 16, 1900.

This came close to the latest snowfall of at least one inch recorded in Huntsville, a record currently held by the 2.1 inches of snow that fell March 22, 1968.
