Phenix City’s Kinley Rasmus sets new record at Little League Baseball World Series

Phenix City is still alive at the Little League Baseball World Series (LLBWS), extending their stay in Williamsport after winning its third straight elimination game Tuesday night.
The team plays again Wednesday night and needs two more wins to reach the U.S. Championship Game but the Alabama squad has already made history through star player Kinley Rasmus.
In the first game, she tied Mo’ne Davis for the most strikeouts in a game by a girl pitcher at the LLBWS. Now, she’s making history at the plate.
Kinley Rasmus delivering as a two-way star
Rasmus is the daughter of former Atlanta Braves player Cory Rasmus. The Rasmus family has sent multiple players to MLB, both as pitchers and hitters.
Kinley seems to have picked up a few things from all of them.
So far in Williamsport, Kinley Rasmus has:
- 10 2/3 scoreless innings pitched
- 14 strikeouts (tied for most by a girl at LLBWS)
- 5 hits (tied for most by a girl at LLBWS)
Her double against California made Rasmus the first girl with an extra-base hit in LLBWS history. And it was just a few feet shy of a home run.
Rasmus will have a chance to add to those totals at the plate Wednesday night when Phenix City hopes to stave off elimination another day. Here’s what you need to know:
