It may not officially be in the state of Alabama but the Flora-Bama Lounge is certainly a big part of the Alabama coast experience for many visitors.

The Flora-Bama Lounge has been recognized as one of the best beach bars across the country by USA Today’s annual 10Best readers’ choice awards.

The popular bar + restaurant came in at No. 2 in the rankings for the second straight year, sitting behind only the Bungalow Bar in New York.

Keep reading to see why it was selected + what you need to know before planning your next visit.

Flora-Bama Lounge

Flora-Bama first opened on the Florida side of the state border in the 1960s. You might be parking in either state when you visit.

USA Today calls it a “legendary honky-tonk bar,” adding:

“…the beach lounge features five stages for live music, with daily offerings of rock, dance, country, and beach tunes. Kick back at one of their beachfront bars with a Bushwacker, a frozen cocktail with rum, coffee liqueur, crème de cacao, and coconut cream. Enjoy fresh oysters or a build-your-own burger at the oyster bar, all the while taking in the superlative Gulf views.”

Even if you haven’t visited for yourself, you have certainly heard of the popular Gulf Coast attraction. And there’s no better time to schedule your first (or 50th) visit than right now.
