Former Alabama football coach and current university advisor Nick Saban is set to take on a new role in the national landscape of college athletics, according to a recent report from The Athletic.

Saban will reportedly be selected as the co-chair of a new commission on reforming college sports, alongside Texas Tech board of regents chairman Cody Campbell. The news comes less than a week after Saban reportedly met with President Donald Trump after the latter’s speech in Tuscaloosa.

In recent years, Saban has expressed his concerns with the direction of the college sports world, mostly focusing on name, image and likeness deals as well as the transfer portal. Since he retired from coaching, rumors swirled that he would eventually land in an overseeing role like this one.

Yahoo Sports first reported the plan to create a presidential commission, examining a list of issues facing college sports from the transfer portal + NIL to conference alignment and Title IX.
