The Walk of Champions path to the front of Bryant-Denny Stadium is always surrounded by fans waiting to get an up-close look at Crimson Tide players and coaches. It’s a walk Nick Saban became accustomed to over the last 17 years.

Now, that walk is led by Kalen DeBoer but Saban will make an appearance this weekend before the team comes through.

Saturday’s first ceremony, scheduled for approximately 2:30PM, will take place at the head of the Walk of Champions on University Blvd. The new stadium signage featuring Saban’s name will be unveiled following remarks from:

  • Dr. Stuart R. Bell, President of the University of Alabama
  • Greg Byrne, Director of Athletics
  • Nick Saban

From there, the Saban family will take the trip between the waves of fans at the Walk of Champions and enter into the newly-minted Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Fans will also get a chance to show their appreciation to the Sabans during a halftime ceremony inside the stadium. The university said there will be an on-field recognition of the coach and his family.

When the news was announced in July, Nick Saban made it clear this gesture was not just an honor to him but to everything his family did for the university and the city of Tuscaloosa.

“This is a very special honor. I don’t think there could be anything that honors the hard work and the example we tried to set for our community and university and program for all the players in it to what you all have decided to do today. Terry and I certainly have the utmost gratitude for this great legacy type of award by naming the field for us.”
