Compiled by Slacker using data from Zillow, check out this list of Alabama cities with the most expensive homes. Keep reading for a breakdown of the top five.

1. Mountain Brook, AL

It’s no surprise that the number one spot goes to Mountain Brook, a suburb of Birmingham.

Historically one of the most expensive places to live in the state, the average value of a Mountain Brook home as of January 2023 is $816,214.

Valued at an average $513,000 in 2018, these homes have increased by 46.2%.

2. Equality, AL

While Equality, Alabama’s population only amounts to about 150 residents, this small town has some high-value homes.

Located in Coosa County near Alexander City, this city’s average home value is an estimated $628,328.

The main reason for this small town’s higher median home value is its proximity to Lake Martin– a lake with several expensive waterfront homes that reach into the millions. According to lakehomes.com, six out of eight of Alabama’s most expensive lake homes are located on Lake Martin.

3. Orange Beach, AL

Looking for a summer retreat? Orange Beach, Alabama clocks in at number three with an average home value of $622,662.

With plenty of new beach houses and high-rise condos, Orange Beach is one of the state’s most upscale beach towns.

The area has experienced a significant 88% increase in home value in the past five years, almost doubling its average home value since 2018.

4. Vestavia Hills, AL

Another over-the-mountain community, Vestavia Hills comes in at number four on the list with an estimated $464,808 average home value.

Home to high-rent communities such as Liberty Park, Vestavia is runner up in terms of Birmingham suburbs behind Mountain Brook.

5. Jackson’s Gap

At number five, Jackson’s Gap has an average home value of $474,698.

Another Lake Martin-adjacent town, Jackson’s Gap is located near Dadeville off 280 East. This small town has also experienced a significant rise in median home value, increasing by 86.8% since 2018.
