This past week, nine new building permits were issued for construction projects around the state exceeding $1 million. Five of these permits were for Birmingham-area projects, while the remaining permits are in Auburn and North Alabama.

One of the largest projects approved this past week is a senior living complex in the Birmingham suburb of Mountain Brook. Here’s what we know:

New assisted living facility in Mountain Brook

Mountain Brook Senior Living consists of a 4-story building with 165 units over 1 level of podium for 123 parking spaces. The unit mix consists of 32 memory care, 32 assisted living, and 101 senior living units.

Fitness, salon
Indoor pool
Art room
Men’s and women’s clubroom
Theater
Bar
Covered pergola

Capstone Building Corp. was issued a $17 million permit for the project.
