Shoals CASA, an organization whose mission is to support and promote Court Appointed Special Advocates who speak up for disadvantaged children in court, is hosting their first ever music fest in The Shoals. Below, we’ve gathered more information about what exactly Shoals CASA does, and how their upcoming music fest can raise awareness for neglected and abandoned children in the area.

What does Shoals CASA do?

CASA is a national organization that serves a network of 948 organizations across the US, Shoals CASA being one. Their mission and goal is to promote advocacy for children who need care and options for safer, permanent homes. Volunteers of the CASA organizations are trained to act in favor of neglected children in courtrooms, and illustrate to court officials that a more enduring home is needed for the child.

Who can Volunteer & How to Become One

If you’re interested in volunteering with Shoals CASA and becoming an advocate, it’s fairly simple. The one thing volunteers of the organization have in common is their passion and drive to help children in need. Here are a few requirements in order to become a volunteer:

• Must be 21 years of age
• Must be willing to complete 30 hours of pre-service training
• Must be committed to the designated child’s case until it is closed
• Must pass background check and complete interview
• Must attend court appearances to represent assigned Child

1st Annual Shoals CASA Music Fest

Mark your calendars! The 1st EVER Shoals CASA Music Fest is set for Saturday, August 28th from 4 PM — 10 PM. This non-profit concert, the first one ever at Muscle Shoals Amphitheater, is bringing local musicians to the Shoals, plus awareness for disadvantaged children in the community. The event some local emerging artists such as:

• Moon Tree
• TOC
• Bryan Muse Band
• Howell Sledge and the Revue
