Singing River Trail launches construction of new segment in Lawrence County
Reading time: 2 minutes

The Singing River Trail is one of North Alabama’s gems, and it is about to get even longer, as construction began Friday, November 6, 2026, on a new segment of the trail in Lawrence County.
The new trail segment will connect Roy Coffee Park to downtown Courtland. The project also adds a kayak ramp and parking area, giving paddlers new access to Big Nance Creek and the Tennessee River.
Singing River Trail keeps growing
This current project will include approximately 1.3 miles of trail along Jefferson Street and another 1,650 feet of new asphalt and concrete pedestrian paths through downtown Courtland.
Funding for the trail extension comes from a $1.5 million USDA Rural Development grant.
“With the new trail segment and kayak ramp, residents and visitors will be able to walk, bike, and paddle their way through Courtland. We’re grateful to Congressman Robert Aderholt and USDA Rural Development for making this funding possible, and to Mayor John McGregor, the Town of Courtland and The Kelley Group for their partnership in making this vision a reality.”
Singing River Trail Executive Director Misti Potter
The Singing River Trail is a 220-mile+ greenway network connecting communities across the Tennessee Valley region, and holds official National Recreation Trail status from the National Park Service.
