Last month, Starbucks announced the decision to close roughly 250 stores across the country including five here in Alabama.

The locations that are now closed included:

  • Anniston: 30 Nicole Lane, Anniston, AL 36206
  • Decatur: 2005 6th Ave. SE., Decatur, AL 35601
  • Florence: 1161 Florence Boulevard, Florence, AL 35630
  • Gadsden: 720 Gilbert Ferry Road SE, Gadsden, AL 35954
  • Tuscaloosa: 405 15th St., Tuscaloosa, AL 35401

“We have carefully reviewed our North America coffeehouse portfolio and identified locations where we do not believe we can consistently deliver the experience we want for customers and partners or where we don’t see a path to acceptable financial performance.”

Mike Grams, Chief Operating Officer

But don’t worry, coffee lovers. If you need a Starbucks fix, there are still plenty of locations to choose from in Alabama.

There are now 151 open Starbucks locations across the state. Each city that had a closure does not have to go very far to find their next Starbucks.

Tuscaloosa still has seven locations open including some on the University of Alabama’s campus. Decatur and Gadsden each have a pair of Starbucks locations inside city limits.

Earlier this year, Starbucks announced it would be opening a new cafe at the AC & Element Hotel coming to downtown Birmingham.

“Every year we close some coffeehouses and open others as part of managing our portfolio. And as we shared previously, we remain excited about the significant long-term growth opportunity ahead in North America. We are actively developing a strong pipeline of new coffeehouses and remain committed to growth in North America.”
