Suni Lee’s journey from the Olympics to Auburn and back

Suni Lee became a household name in 2021 when she won the all-around gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. That was just the start of her Olympic career which already includes:

  • 1 individual gold
  • 1 team gold
  • 1 team silver
  • 3 individual bronze

In between her Olympic trips, Lee chose Auburn University for a brief college experience. In the 2022 national championships, Lee won gold in balance beam and silver in all-around.

But her college career was cut short when she was diagnosed with a kidney disease in 2023.

However, she returned to the mats for the 2024 Olympics, claiming two more medals. She was named the Comeback Athlete of the Year at the 2025 ESPYs.
