3: Only one 3 seed has made it to the Super 7 this season as Opelika shocked several teams on their road to Birmingham. There are two 2 seeds (Vigor + Jackson). The rest were region champions.
4: There will be four schools in Birmingham searching for their first state championship including: Anniston, Bayside Academy, Coosa Christian and Opelika.
6: There are six teams hoping to repeat as champions including: Thompson (7A), Jackson (4A), Mars Hill (3A), Wadley (1A), Central-Phenix City (6A-7A flag) and Montgomery Catholic (1A-5A flag).
8: Mark Freeman, head coach of Thompson, is hoping to become the third coach to ever win eight AHSAA state championships which would tie him for the all-time lead with Danny Horn and Terry Curtis.
12: There will be several big names playing in Protective Stadium this week that you’ll be hearing on Saturdays over the next few years. According to 247 Sports rankings, 12 of the state’s top 40 recruits in the Class of 2026 will play in the Super 7.
15: There are still four teams that have a chance to reach the coveted 15-0 mark including Clay-Chalkville, Anniston, Mars Hill and Maplesville.
26: The longest winning streak in the state currently sits at 26 games, owned by the Wadley Bulldogs who are hoping to cap off a perfect 14-0 season with their second straight 1A title.
2017: The last time the 7A championship game did not include Thompson. The Warriors have won five of the last six championships.
