Take a look at Alabama’s first DP Dough
Reading time: 3 minutes
The strip is a common place for late-night eats and the heart of Tuscaloosa’s nightlife. DP Dough, a new calzone place has just opened up and is already gaining traction. Keep reading to learn more about DP Dough and what their all about.
How it started
The food chain first launched in Amherst, Massachusettes. It was founded by Dan and his mom Penny in 1987. Dan and his mom believed calzones were just way better than just a slice of pizza. That’s why they opened DP Dough, DP standing for Dan and Penny, to satisfy students wanting a late-night snack.
College towns only
DP Dough doesn’t just set up shop anywhere. They take late-night bites seriously, and have locations in college towns all across the east coast, from Illinois to Florida.
Main menu and more
The menu includes just about every Italian snack except for pizza (because calzones are superior). Choose from 25 different calzones, wings, and dunkers. They also offer a “Construction Zone”, in which customers can build their calzone. DP Dough has special items specific to each location. We recommend the BBQ Chicken Zone, pictured above.
Here are some of the Tuscaloosa picks at DP Dough:
- Big Al Zone
- Mac Daddy Zone
- BBQ Chicken Zone
- Bro Zone
- Macalo Zone
- CBR Zone
- Cheese Stix
- DP Dunkers
More than just calzones
DP Dough also has a selection of desserts for those craving a sweet treat. They carry your traditional sweets like cinnamon sticks and cookies. They also have some unique dessert options like edible cookie dough, baked Oreos, and the “Apple Pie Zombie”. These sweets pair perfectly with a calzone!
