New students at The University of Alabama are about to receive an even warmer welcome with the brand-new, visually stunning Randall Welcome Center. Let’s take an inside look.
Inside the new Randall Welcome Center
This is not your typical welcome center. It’s 15,000 square feet filled with high-tech, interactive and immersive experiences for prospective and new students at The University of Alabama.
Here’s what’s inside:
- Gathering areas for students on campus tours
- Lounge
- Theater
- Offices for UA admissions
- Roll Tide Room
Yes, the Roll Tide Room is as cool as it sounds. An immersive audio-visual experience, the room allows visitors to see what a game day is like in the world of the Crimson Tide.
Walking through the center, visitors can learn about campus traditions, the story of The University and the opportunities students have there.
“The Randall Welcome Center illustrates the rich history of The University of Alabama, our unwavering commitment to student success and the unmatched student experience at the Capstone.
Our mission to bring the best and brightest students to our campus has been strengthened.”
Stuart R. Bell, President, The University of Alabama
Dedicated to Pettus Randall + Dr. Catherine J. Randall
(The University of Alabama)
The late Pettus Randall and his wife, Dr. Catherine J. Randall, have contributed to The University and Tuscaloosa for many years, and the naming of the facility honors their dedication to the community.
“To have Pettus’ name and legacy preserved in this way means the world to this family.
At his death at age 57, he had so much left to give on this Earth and so many plans to do so. Our family’s hope is that his legacy honored in this way by his alma mater will inspire others to grow into the person of generosity and vision that he was.”

Students coming to the Capstone for tours will start here, and the Randall Welcome Center is also open to visitors.
“The Randall Welcome Center will have an enormous impact on our recruitment and admission efforts,” said Dr. Matthew McClendon, associate vice president and executive director of enrollment at UA. “By having the country’s premier welcome center, prospective students and their families will enjoy a campus visit experience that is unmatched. This facility will be the standard against which all other college and university admission offices are compared.”
Dr. Matthew McClendon, Associate Vice President + Executive Director of Enrollment, The University of Alabama
