According to a statement from Target, the updates are designed to enhance the in-store shopping experience and bring new digital capabilities to the location.

“Target is committed to investing in the guest experience through our store design, and we’ve reimagined hundreds of stores over the past several years,” a Target spokesperson said in a statement. “We’re continuing these efforts at many Target stores this year, including the Bel Air store, which is slated to be completed later this summer.”

The remodel will include several upgrades throughout the store, including:

  • Modern décor and fixtures, additional mannequins and specialty LED lighting
  • Updated merchandise displays in departments such as home, apparel and beauty
  • An expanded grocery area with fresh produce, meat and dairy
  • Updated spaces supporting Order Pickup, Drive Up and Returns & Exchanges
  • A dedicated nursing space for guests
  • Updated restrooms with touchless features
  • Dedicated display areas highlighting brand partnerships with Disney and Apple

These updates are intended to create a shopping environment that is easier to navigate while offering guests more convenience and inspiration throughout the store.

A long history at Bel Air

The Target store has been part of the Bel Air shopping center for nearly three decades. According to a recent Facebook post from The Shoppes at Bel Air, the location opened July 28, 1996, becoming the first Target store in Alabama.

The shopping center itself first opened in 1967 and has remained one of Mobile’s longest-running retail destinations.

The ongoing remodel marks the latest update to the property as the center approaches nearly six decades in operation.
