It’s been an incredible three-week run to start the high school football season.

We’ve seen a pair of record-breaking high-scoring games already—Ohatchee beating New Hope + McKenzie defeating Elba. Plus, we’ve had a run of some great Game of the Weeks so far including:

There’s some rain in the forecast for this week but many games should stay mostly dry Friday night, including our Game of the Week. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Who: Gadsden City Titans at McAdory Yellow Jackets
  • Where: 4800 McAdory School Rd, McCalla, AL 35111
  • When: 7PM, Friday, Sept. 13
  • Tickets: $8 | Buy here

Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about both teams ahead of this week’s non-region showdown.

Gadsden City Titans

Gadsden City is no stranger to a difficult non-region game. This season alone, the Titans have already played 6A #6 Muscle Shoals and 7A #5 Hewitt-Trussville.

They split those two games before winning their region opener so Gadsden City currently sits at 2-1 on the year and is ranked #7 in Class 6A by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

Now, the Titans are set for their first ever trip to play McAdory.

TJ Worthy already has five touchdowns to his name this season, being the top playmaker in both the passing and rushing game. The Titans have averaged 29 points per game so far.

McAdory Yellow Jackets

Talk about a roller coaster of a season already for the Yellow Jackets. Taking down county rival and 4A #1 Pleasant Grove in the season opener was impressive but was quickly followed by a blown lead and last-second defeat to Helena in the second week of the year.

But when region play began last week, McAdory seemingly brought out its best performance so far—at least on defense. The Yellow Jackets forced five turnovers and scored a defensive touchdown in a 34-7 win over Northridge.

Now, McAdory sits at 2-1 as it chases their first region title since 2015. While this week’s game likely will not impact the team’s chase for that title, it could show just how serious of a contender the Yellow Jackets are to the blue map.

Another name to watch out for: Kawann Johnson, who has racked up over 300 yards in the last two games including a pair of 60+ yard touchdown runs.

Other games to watch in Week 3

Most teams are still in region play this week but there are plenty of top-10 matchups that nearly made the cut for our Game of the Week. Either way, you should be keeping an eye on these scores as there will be a lot of impactful games and maybe even a few playoff previews.

Some of the other top games include:

  • 7A #1 Central-Phenix City at 7A #8 Dothan
  • 7A #7 Hoover at 7A #5 Hewitt-Trussville
  • 7A #4 Auburn at 7A #2 Enterprise
  • 6A #10 Spanish Fort at 6A #1 Saraland
  • 5A #9 Ramsay at 5A #10 Corner
  • 5A UMS-Wright at 5A #7 Vigor
