The nation’s first Miele manufacturing facility coming to Alabama
Reading time: 3 minutes
A maker of high-end appliances, Miele, is coming to the US for the first time, and they’re landing in Opelika, Alabama. Keep reading for all the details.
Miele manufacturing hub coming 2024
Founded in 1899, Miele is a longtime brand based in Germany. These days, they manufacture sleek, modern and high-quality appliances for cooking, cleaning and doing laundry. Their company promise is “Immer Besser,” which translates to “Forever Better.” Always on the cutting edge of design and sustainability, Miele is excited to expand their presence in the US.
Opelika, Alabama will be their first manufacturing hub in the States. Here’s what they had to say about the location:
“Opelika is a fast-growing and prosperous city in south-east Alabama with a current population of around 32,000. Including the neighboring city of Auburn, which is home to one of the state’s leading technical universities, more than 100,000 people live in the region.”

Senior Vice President of Business Unit Cooking Dr. Uwe Brunkhorst commented on Opelika’s attractiveness for their first US facility:
“This means that there is a good supply of skilled workers, including highly qualified engineers.
Overall, Opelika offers the best conditions for a successful start for our new plant, including the long-term perspective for further expansion stages.”

At the new manufacturing hub, where production is expected to start by the end of 2024, Miele will produce ovens and ranges, and later ventilation hoods.
Bringing jobs to Opelika
The new manufacturing facility is expected to bring 150 jobs to Opelika by 2026. By 2030, Miele will create even more jobs with Phase II of the expansion—a large production center serving as the company’s major US production center.
“Miele is one the world’s most iconic brands, and we’re thrilled to have this great company select Alabama as the home for its first U.S. manufacturing facility.
Miele is a wonderful addition to our state’s business community, and I look forward to the day when its new Opelika facility is turning out first-class ‘Made in USA’ appliances coming from Alabama.”
Governor Kay Ivey
According to the Alabama Department of Commerce, Miele selected the Opelika location over potential sites in Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina and Mississippi.
“We are excited to announce the arrival of Miele to our vibrant community. We are committed to fostering innovation, creating high-quality jobs and contributing to the economic growth of our community.
Together, we look forward to a future filled with shared success and lasting positive impact.”
Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller
