Season 29 of The Voice continues to narrow the competition field and after Monday night’s episode, there is just one more Alabama singer remaining.

Coach Adam Levine put his two Alabama stars up against each other in the knockout round. And it was Mobile’s Alexia Jayy that broke through.

Keep reading to watch performances from both Jayy and Bay Simpson.

Alexia Jayy

Jayy has been one of the favorites in the competition since earning a three-chair turn during her blind audition.

During the knockouts, she chose to sing “You Give Good Love” by Whitney Houston and she rose to the occasion.

“Normally, it’s a bold move to do Whitney but there’s no singer that Whitney is in better hands with. Alexia is special. I think people are going to be blown away.”

Adam Levine

Kelly Clarkson, who is an opposing coach on the show, was standing within seconds of Jayy’s first note in the song and by the time it was over, all three coaches gave a standing ovation.

She’s gonna win.

Clarkson went on to say that Jayy sounds like if Whitney Houston and Lauryn Hill’s voices had a baby. She went up on stage to give Jayy a hug after the performance, saying she wants to remember this moment for when Jayy is at the Grammys one day.

John Legend and Levine echoed the Lauryn Hill comparisons. And former coach on The Voice CeeLo Green, who was brought in as a mega mentor for the episode, also had high praise for the Alabama native.

“What a blessing to be able to hear true talent.”

Once the performances were over, all three coaches agreed on who should move on with Levine making the final decision.

“I had to go with Alexia because she has one of the best voices I’ve ever heard in my life. She has that rare ability to sing anything. I think she could win this entire competition very easily.”

Bay Simpson

In his final performance on the show, Simpson admitted it was a little nerve-wracking to go up with somebody as talented as Jayy. But the Shoals native still delivered a big performance that could have won other knockout matchups.

Simpson performed “One Headlight” by The Wallflowers, leading the room in a rock ‘n’ roll-style sing along.

“Bay has been the big surprise late in the game. I love his voice.”

Adam Levine

Clarkson and Legend spoke highly of the vibe Simpson brings to the stage and knowing what his strengths are.

Despite Levine picking Jayy to move on, he said Simpson still has the capability of being a big artist without needing the voice talent that Jayy has.
