Foley, Auburn and Huntsville cracked the U-Haul’s annual Growth Index list.

The list is created from U-Haul’s compilation of well over 2.5 million one-way truck, trailer and U-Box® portable moving container transactions that occur annually in the U.S. and Canada.

Communities making the list saw the largest “net gain” of U-Haul customers taking one-way equipment into towns in 2024.

The annual U-Haul survey is an effective way to gauge the ability of states, metros and cities in attracting and maintaining residents.

U-Haul: Ranking Alabama towns

In the cities category, which does not include the large metro areas, three of Alabama fastest growing communities made the top 25 list.

They are::

10th — Foley
12th — Auburn
14th — Huntsville

The state of Alabama also did well in 2024 ranking 16th nationally. South Carolina topped this year’s state index followed by Texas, North Carolina and Florida.
