Tide + Tigers new recruiting classes rank among nation’s best

Early Signing Day for the college football recruiting cycle ended last night with both Alabama and Auburn ranked among the top 10 recruiting classes in the country.

While Alabama has been a mainstay among the top recruiting classes every year for more than a decade, Auburn has not been quite as fortunate in recent years. But new head coach Hugh Freeze is changing that. Here’s a look at the recruiting classes landed by each team yesterday:

Alabama’s new class of recruits was ranked no. 2 nationally behind SEC rival Georgia according to recruiting website 247Sports.com.

Of Alabama’s 23 commits, 20 are rated four-stars or higher. Here’s who the Tide landed on Early Signing Day:

  • Jeremiah Beaman – 6’4″, 265 pounds, defensive lineman, Birmingham, Ala.
  • Zabien Brown – 6’0″, 180 pounds, defensive back, Santa Ana, Ca.
  • Sterling Dixon – 6’3″, 211 pounds, linebacker, Spanish Fort, Ala.

  • Aeryn Hampton – 5’10”, 175 pounds, athlete, Daingerfield, TX.
  • Joe Ionata – 6’5″, 294 pounds, offensive lineman, Clearwater, Fla.

  • Cayden Jones – 6’4″, 210 pounds, linebacker, Arden, N.C.

Auburn’s recruiting class ranks no. 8 in the country

Auburn has not landed a top tier recruiting class in several years, but Hugh Freeze is showing what made him such a hot coaching commodity already by getting the Tigers in the top 10 among the nation’s top classes. And Freeze did it by grabbing mostly Alabama-grown talent.

The Tigers landed 20 recruits, including its possible quarterback of the future in Walker White of Little Rock Christian Academy in Arkansas. Ten of Auburn’s new signees are rated 4-star recruits or better.
