An often-told story in the wake of a beloved pet’s passing is that they are waiting at the “Rainbow Bridge” for their owners to one day join them again so they may cross together.

Thanks to a local resident, the Troy University Arboretum is now home to its very own Rainbow Bridge.

Bringing the bridge to Troy

The new bridge was recently completed in the arboretum on the Meadow Loop Trail, a short walk from the parking lot.

The local resident who had the idea for the bridge, Clark Harris, was inspired by a friend mentioning Rainbow Bridges elsewhere.

“A friend mentioned this idea a few months ago when I was talking about adding new trail bridges at the arboretum. I wasn’t aware that Rainbow Bridges existed in other areas, but we decided this was a special feature our community needed.”

Comforting pet owners

The Rainbow Bridge is a long-told poem for those who have lost their furry family members.

Troy’s Rainbow Bridge is simply a symbol of that story, but the arboretum wants the bridge to become a meaningful feature of the grounds.

Visitors are encouraged to memorialize their pets by hanging a tag or collar from the bridge.

Check out the colorful project at Troy University Arboretum, which is open free of charge for the public seven days a week from dawn to dusk.
