Tuskegee University is one of five universities chosen to become a Distinguished Military College.

The designation was announced by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth at his State of the Force speech at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia.

Tuskegee is one of five America’s Corps of Cadets

The new designation expands America’s Corps of Cadets, a War Department program established to expand the pipeline of “patriotic leaders of character” commissioned into the Joint Force.

Universities joining America’s Corps of Cadets earn “Honor School” status, granting priority in future officer commissions.

The other four universities joining Tuskegee are:

  • Hillsdale College
  • Louisiana State University
  • Liberty University
  • Mississippi State University

“Tuskegee University is deeply honored and grateful for its designation as a Distinguished Military College by the Department of War and the Secretary of War. This recognition affirms more than a century of service to our nation and charts an exciting path toward the continued growth of a full Corps of Cadets at Tuskegee University. It reflects our enduring commitment to leadership, excellence, and national service.”

Dr. Mark A. Brown, President and CEO of Tuskegee University

Tuskegee is the only Historically Black College or University that received the designation. Below is a video of Dr. Brown making the historic announcement.

In addition to the five new colleges, the other six America’s Corps of Cadets colleges are:

  • Texas A&M University
  • Norwich University
  • Virginia Military Institute (VMI)
  • The Citadel
  • Virginia Polytechnic Institute
  • State University, and North Georgia College and State University
