The historic Tom Braly Municipal Stadium has been home of multiple national championships for the University of North Alabama football team.

But after 77 years of calling the stadium their home, the Lions are preparing to move to a new stadium in 2026. Their final game at Braly will be this Saturday + here’s what you need to know before kickoff:

  • 🏈 Who: Southern Utah at North Alabama
  • ⏱️ When: 1PM | Saturday, Nov. 22

The day will include a celebration of the 30-year anniversary of UNA’s 1995 national championship, its third consecutive Division II title.

To commemorate the 1990s teams, UNA will wear the classic “stars” on the helmet Saturday as worn by the “Purple Swarm.”

North Alabama football

Braly Municipal Stadium has been home football facility for UNA since the rebirth of the Lions’ football program in 1949. North Alabama holds a 281-134-8 all-time record at Braly Stadium.

Now, the Lions are moving on to a more modern stadium, something sorely needed for a program that recently made the jump to Division I.

A new $65 million stadium broke ground in June 2024 and is expected to be ready for the 2026 football season. The stadium will be located right on campus and is set to include:

  • Turf field
  • Track
  • 10,000 fan capacity
  • Suites + stadium club

While it’s been the home of UNA for seven decades, the stadium itself belongs to the City of Florence and has been used for several other events since being built.

Between 1986 and 2013, Braly Municipal Stadium hosted the NCAA Division II Football Championship Game as well.

Now, Florence City Schools will be using the stadium, announcing a $9 million renovation to create a venue made for high school sporting events.
