The University of North Alabama’s Department of Foreign Languages announced this week it has secured a $2,200 grant from the Alabama Humanities Alliance to assist with a new international film festival this spring.

The festival will feature films in French, German and Spanish.

“We are very grateful to the Alabama Humanities Alliance for their support of this project.

“This International Film Festival is a valuable opportunity for our foreign language students to explore the culture of the languages they study, but also for the UNA and the Shoals communities to participate in this cultural event and see the value in learning a second or third language and become global citizens.”

Dr. Alejandra Alvarado-Brizuela, Associate Professor of Spanish at UNA

The festival schedule is as follows:

  • March 3: Flashback (French film with English subtitles)
  • March 10: Contra (German film with English subtitles)
  • March 17: Alegría (Spanish film with English subtitles)

All movies will start at 6PM at Wesleyan Hall auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.
