The University of South Alabama has officially dedicated a new home for its Jaguar Marching Band.
University leaders, students and supporters gathered Friday, March 6 to celebrate the opening of the Geri and Gordon Moulton Jaguar Marching Band Complex, a $13 million facility designed to support the growing program.
A new home for the Jaguar Marching Band
The nearly 25,000 square foot complex includes several new spaces designed specifically for marching band preparation and performance.
Features of the facility include:
- Full ensemble rehearsal hall
- Dedicated drumline and color guard studios
- Dressing rooms and administrative offices
- Music library
- Expanded storage for uniforms, instruments and equipment
- Full size lighted practice field designed to match Hancock Whitney Stadium
The practice field mirrors the dimensions of the stadium, allowing the band to rehearse in conditions similar to game day.
Honoring the Moulton family

The complex is named after Geri and Gordon Moulton, honoring the university’s second president and his wife.
During the dedication ceremony, Mrs. Moulton also presented the university with a $2.5 million gift supporting the project.
“The Jaguar Marching Band represents the very best of our university. This new facility ensures our students have the resources they deserve.”
Jo Bonner, University of South Alabama president
Supporting the future of the program

The Jaguar Marching Band was founded in 2009 with 140 members. Today, the program has grown to 275 members and performs across campus, the Mobile community and throughout the Gulf Coast.
The new complex marks the first time in the band’s 17 year history that the entire program will be housed in one building.
University leaders say the facility will also support recruitment efforts and allow the band to grow to as many as 350 members.
Construction on the complex began in 2025 and included nearly $6 million in state funding, along with support from donors, alumni and the university. The new facility provides the Jaguar Marching Band with a permanent home as the program continues to grow and perform across the Gulf Coast region.
