It was a very wet weekend across Alabama as rain continues to be the story of this year’s spring season.

According to the National Weather Service, Tuscaloosa saw historic rainfall Saturday as 3.7 inches of precipitation were recorded at the Tuscaloosa Airport. That total set a new record for the city, breaking a 49-year-old record by more than half an inch.

Nearly three inches of rain fell between noon and 6PM on Saturday, May 10.

Less than two weeks into the month, Tuscaloosa has already recorded 8.51 inches of rain—already its highest total since 2003. The city’s current record rainfall for the month of May is 11.13 inches, set in 1976.
