USA Today has nominated Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge in Decatur, Alabama to compete in their 10Best Readers’ Choice “Best National Wildlife Refuge in the U.S.” contest.

If you are a fan of Wheeler, you know there are 15,000 reasons to support this precious natural wonder in North Alabama.

That’s how many cranes visit the refuge in the winter. If only cranes could vote!

The National Wildlife Refuge 10Best contest brings attention to the Refuge system that protects 150 million acres nationwide, 570 refuges, 700 species of birds and 380 endangered species of plants and animals.

How the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice works

If you are not familiar with USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice contests, they pool a bunch of experts around the nation to create a list of 20 contestants.

In addition to the Best National Wildlife Refuge category, they are presently running “Best Beer Bar (Birmingham’s Hop City is in the running)”, and “Best Botanical Gardens” (make sure to vote for Huntsville Botanical Garden) contests.

Casting a vote is easy and you can do it once a day.

Visit USA Today’s 10Best Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge page to VOTE.

The election ends March 4th at 11AM.

Presently, Wheeler is in 18th place out of 20 refuges from Florida to Alaska.
