Will the Tide sell alcohol at Bryant-Denny Stadium this fall? Tuscaloosa City Council to decide this month.
Reading time: 2 minutes
Pending approval from the Tuscaloosa City Council and the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, alcohol sales at Bryant-Denny Stadium could happen this fall season.
According to a Tuscaloosa News report, UA’s concessionaire—Levy Premium Foodservice LP—has sent an application to the City Council of Tuscaloosa for a liquor license. Required notice was recently posted outside Gate 5 at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
“Over the last couple months, we’ve revisited the opportunity for alcohol sales at select athletics events. We’re currently working with our concessionaire through the liquor license application process for Bryant-Denny Stadium.”
Alabama Athletics Director Greg Byrne said in a statement to The Tuscaloosa News
Alcohol Sales Were Delayed Last Spring
Last spring, the University put a hold on alcohol sales at Coleman Coliseum, even though the city council approved the application for that facility. The delay was caused by a disagreement about additional fees the city had placed on all University sports facilities serving alcohol.
In June, Byrne announced the UA would reconsider alcohol sales at events after the university worked out a deal with the city to lift the proposed service fee, the News reported.
The agreement paved the way for alcohol sales at Bryant-Denny.
Allowed since 2019, presently six schools allow alcohol sales:
- Arkansas Razorbacks
- LSU Tigers
- Missouri Tigers
- Tennnessee Volunteers
- Texas A&M Aggies
- Vanderbilt Commodores
