“The staff at Rickwood Caverns State Park has truly made ‘Wonderland Under Warrior’ one of the state’s very best holiday attractions. We know many of our guests look forward to it each year. We are committed to providing one-of-a-kind experiences that people can’t get anywhere else, and this is a perfect example. We hope to see new visitors and old friends visit Rickwood Caverns during the upcoming holiday season.”
Greg Lein, Director of the Alabama State Parks System
If this is your first time visiting Wonderland Under Warrior, the walk will include 30 stairs and a mile-long walk inside the cave. In addition, the event features an out-and-back self-guided tour bypassing the 110-step ascent at the end of the normal cave tour, making the walk easier for guests with mobility issues or small children.
The Rickwood Caverns State Park gift shop will be decorated for the occasion and offer unique gifts, ornaments, snacks and hot cocoa for purchase.
“It’s clear ‘Wonderland Under Warrior’ has become one of the top attractions at the park every year, and families seem to come back each holiday season to enjoy it. We are so proud to keep this holiday tradition going for all of our guests, many of whom tell us how much they look forward to it annually.”
Chris Bentley, Superintendent, Rickwood Caverns State Park
About Rickwood Caverns State Park
Not familiar with Rickwood Caverns State Park? Located just 30 miles north of Birmingham, Rickwood Caverns State Park is one of the best public cave experiences in Alabama. During the cave tour—which takes you 175 feet beneath the earth—you’ll discover 260-million-year-old rock formations and see how the cave was carved by ages of rushing water.
Plus, the cave’s constant 58-62 degree temperature is perfect—whether you want to cool off from the summer heat or warm up during the cold winter months.
In addition to the cave, Rickwood Caverns State Park includes campground, playground, hiking trails, gift shop and an Olympic-sized swimming pool fed by cool waters from the cave. Learn more on the Rickwood Caverns State Park website.
