Green Hill native Jason Isbell is known for his songwriting and storytelling but it’s impossible to overlook his ability as a guitarist. Whether it’s an acoustic or electric in his hands, he is known as one of the best guitarists of his generation.

Now, international guitar brand Gibson is giving fans the opportunity to buy a clone of the famous “Red Eye” guitar Isbell has used since 2018.

Keep reading to learn about the history of the guitar + how you can get your hands on one of the rare replicas from Gibson.

Red Eye guitar

The “Red Eye” Burst used to be owned by Ed King of Lynyrd Skynyrd. King, who famously co-wrote “Sweet Home Alabama” during his initial stint with the band in the 1970s, often used the guitar with the band.

King bought the guitar in the 80s and he nicknamed it “Red Eye” after its distinctive appearance.

When King passed away in 2018, Alabama’s own Jason Isbell became the new owner of the guitar. The storied instrument has now found new life, often being featured in Isbell’s stage and studio performances.

Collector’s edition available

The special edition guitars were created using new 3D scanning technology and ultra-precise aging techniques to aid Gibson’s hand-crafting experts. Only 59 have been created.

“Every detail has been thoughtfully replicated, from the exact playing wear to the sonic character and solid Brazilian rosewood fretboard. The figured maple tops were even personally hand-picked by Jason Isbell.”
