Your guide to Alabama’s severe weather preparedness tax-free weekend

Alabama is having a tax-free holiday this weekend. Beginning at 12:01 AM on Friday, Feb. 21st, and ending Sunday, Feb. 23rd at 11:59 PM. We’ve gathered everything you need to know about it here, so keep reading to see what is eligible.
Items eligible

So, what exactly can you get on this tax-free holiday? It’s anything on this list $60 or less:
- Batteries: AAA-cell, AA-cell, C-cell, D-cell, 6-volt, + 9-volt batteries
- Cell phone battery
- Cell phone charger
- Portable self-powered or battery-powered radio, two-way radio, weather band radio or NOAA weather radio
- Portable self-powered light source, battery-powered flashlights, lanterns, or emergency glow sticks
- Tarpaulin
- Plastic sheeting
- Plastic drop cloths
- Flexible, waterproof sheeting
- Ground anchor system, such as bungee cords or rope, tie-down kit
- Duct tape
- Plywood, window film, + materials specifically designed to protect window coverings
- Non-electric food storage cooler or water storage container
- Non-electric can opener
- Artificial ice, blue ice, ice packs
- Self-contained first aid kit
- Fire extinguisher
- Smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector
- Gas or diesel fuel tank or container
Portable generators valued at up to $1000 can also be purchased tax-free this weekend.

Where to find eligible items

Local hardware stores will have most items. These may be near you:
- Planters Hardware, Ashland
- Andrews ACE Hardware, Chatom
- Greenville Hardware, Greenville
- Mary Carter Store, Cullman
- Rocky Ridge Hardware, Vestavia
- Consolidated Ace Hardware, Dothan
Items will also be in most home improvement stores, such as Lowes or Home Depot. Walmart carries some of these items aswell.
