River Walk Plaza, true to its name, will be right on the water on City of Mobile property on the opposite side of Water Street from the end of Dauphin Street (adjacent to the Mobile Convention Center).

Headed up by the City of Mobile, real estate developer Burton Property Group (BPG) and Kessler Capital, River Walk Plaza is estimated to total $100M, and the groundbreaking is expected to come in 2025.

Though the completion date is a long way off, there’s a lot to look forward to. Here’s what the huge project will bring to the Port City:

  • Luxury hotel
  • Condos
  • Office space
  • Multiple food + beverage spots
  • Retail
  • Entertainment options

Designed by Alabama native architect Gray Reese, President ofGray Reese LLC Architects, River Walk Plaza is going to be a stunning destination connection downtown Mobile to the waterfront—something that residents have been wishing for.

How River Walk Plaza came about

“For decades, Mobilians have wanted to bring entertainment and recreational options to the banks of the Mobile River, and this morning, we announced an exciting project that will do just that.”

Mobile Mayor Stimpson

It started with a request for proposals from the City of Mobile—originally just a Mobile River development. Jim DeLapp, Executive Director of Public Works, had an even bigger vision, though: a mixed-used waterfront space. Soon, a team had formed to bring DeLapp’s concept to fruition.

“This is the kind of project that has the power to change the way people see our community. Like the RSA Tower forever changed Mobile’s skyline, this property will change our waterfront and the ways visitors and residents access it from downtown.”

Mobile Mayor Stimpson

Mayor Stimpson further expressed his excitement by saying, “I know that I’m not the only Mobilian looking forward to having dinner on our downtown waterfront.” He’s right—we’re looking forward to it, too.
