A pair of Alabama singers are moving on to the next round on NBC’s The Voice after the battle rounds.

Anna McElroy of Mobile and Joe Henley of Grand Bay have advanced in the 30th season of the popular singing show. Meanwhile, Caroline Alexis of Ozark fell just short in her battle round and was elimination from the competition.

Joe Henley impresses coach Riley Green

Riley Green was asking for a lot from 19-year-old Joe Henley during the latest episode of The Voice. And the Grand Bay teen delivered on the big stage.

Henley was paired up with Kenna Elpers during the Battle Round, and the duo performed Green and Ella Langley’s “Don’t Mind If I Do.” That performance was enough for Green to keep Henley on his team as the competition moves forward.

Henley is quickly becoming an early favorite in the competition, and that’s no surprise if you have heard his voice.

Here’s what the coaches had to say about Henley’s performance Monday night:

“Joe, I wanted you in the blinds because your voice, I call it the Randy Travis effect. You open your mouth and it doesn’t matter what your’e singing, your voice has such a depth to it that it just commands attention. That’s something you can’t teach.”

Kelly Clarkson

“You have one of my favorite voices in the competition. There’s a distinctive quality, when it comes on the radio and when I hear it, I know who it is.”

Anna McElroy shines on Kelly Clarkson’s team

Anna McElroy shined during a duet performance of “Some Things I’ll Never Know” by Teddy Swims and Maren Morris. She sang alongside teammate Johnnie Kapua before coach Kelly Clarkson had to make the decision to keep one singer on her team after the Battle Round.

Clarkson said both singers make her want to get on stage and join the performance but she eventually picked McElroy to move on.

“it’s just hard in general to make such a connection with Johnnie, I hate that we couldn’t both walk off that stage together. But I’m happy to move forward, I’m so excited. Thank you so much, Kelly, for trusting me. I hope I can make you so proud. This is so surreal.”

Fellow Alabama native Riley Green wanted McElroy on his team after her blind audition so he may have been hoping for a chance to steal the Mobile singer. But after the battle round, Green had to admit he would choose McElroy as the winner.

“Your low notes were shocking to me… I guess if I had to say just off this performance here, I’d say Anna. I’m not letting her being from Alabama affect my decision at all.”

After the battle rounds, this season will feature a new phase called “Cut Week.”

When Cut Week begins, each coach will have seven artists on their team. All four coaches will pick two singers to make the Live Shows, and the remaining five on each team will have to face off to fill the final spots during Cut Week.

Only the top 13 in the competition will make it to the Live Shows this season.
