2025 NCAA Softball Tournament: Bama hosting regional again, Auburn heading to Tallahassee

For the 20th consecutive tournament, Alabama’s softball team has earned a top-16 seed + the rights to host the regional round.
The Crimson Tide finished 10th in the SEC regular season before losing in the second round of the conference tournament. It looked like the program’s streak could be in jeopardy and the team had to sweat it out during Sunday’s selection show.
But eventually, Alabama heard its name called as a regional host, setting up another year of the Tuscaloosa Regional.

Alabama softball
This is the 26th consecutive tournament appearance for the Crimson Tide. Alabama has a 71-12 record in NCAA Regional play, advancing to the Super Regional round in 18 times since the format was introduced in 2005.
15 is Alabama’s lowest national seed since 2017.
This year’s regional will include Belmont and Virginia Tech, two teams with more regular season wins than Alabama. Jackson State is the four seed in the regional. Here’s the full schedule:
- Friday, May 16
- Game 1: Belmont vs. Virginia Tech, 2:30PM | ESPN+
- Game 2: Jackson State vs. Alabama, 5PM | ESPN+
- Saturday, May 17 – Times TBA
- Game 3: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2
- Game 4: Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2
- Game 5: Winner Game 4 vs. Loser Game 3
- Sunday, May 18 – Times TBA
- Game 6: Winner Game 3 vs. Winner Game 5
- Game 7 (if necessary): Rematch Game 6
Alabama has made it to the Women’s College World Series in each of the last two seasons. The team is looking to make three consecutive WCWS appearances for the first time since 2016.
The winner of the Tuscaloosa Regional will face the winner of the Norman Regional in the super regional round, potentially meeting four-time defending champion Oklahoma. Tickets for the Tuscaloosa Regional are on sale now.
Auburn softball
The Tigers are in the field of 64 for the 11th consecutive season and the team has become very familiar with Tallahassee during that time.
This is the fourth time in the last seven years Auburn has been paired with the Seminoles including last season when the Tigers fell to Florida State in the regional final.
“It’s about the most convenient trip for us to make. We played Florida State in the fall. There’s a lot of familiarity between both teams. South Florida is a very good team and has some good tools. Robert Morris is also a good program. Any time you see your name called is pretty cool. We’re ready to go.”

The winner of the Tallahassee Regional will advance to face the winner of the Lubbock Regional in the Super Regional round.
