23 new million-dollar construction permits approved in Alabama last week

We’ve dug deeper on the top 3 largest permits to give you a closer look. Let’s get started.

Here are the Details

In order to learn more about construction projects across the state, we reached out to our friends at Southern Exposure Information. Southern Exposure Information pulls information from building permits weekly in order to view the full picture of construction throughout Alabama. You can get access to all of their construction permits right here.

Of the 23 new million-dollar projects, 19 were commercial (new construction, renovations, extensions, etc) while 4 were residential properties. 10 projects are concentrated in the greater Huntsville/Decatur region, while the rest are scattered throughout the state.

We looked into the depth to see which projects stood out—here’s what we learned.

Keep an Eye on These 3 Big Construction Projects

1. An upcoming $8M Emergency Room Expansion at Cullman Regional Medical Center

• Project Cost: $8,079,000
• Project Address: 1912 Alabama Highway 157 NE, City of Cullman, AL 35058
• Project: A commercial remodel/expansion for the new Emergency Room Expansion Project.
• Owner of Project: Cullman Regional Medical Center
• Contractor/Builder: Doster Construction Company

Here’s the rundown. Cullman Regional Medical Center is currently undergoing some landscape changes, and is preparing for a big expansion project: a new, state-of-the-art Emergency Room Expansion project. Big news for the residents of Cullman.

2. A new, $5.5M market project in Huntsville

• Project Cost: $5,578,313
• Project Address: 9040 Memorial Parkway Southwest, Huntsville, AL 35802
• Project: A portion of the upcoming Market at Hayes Farms.
• Owner of Project: Haylett Branch Hays Farms
• Contractor/Builder: James C Hudson Jr Construction Company Inc

This $5.5M project in Huntsville is part of a large, $23.5 million investment for The Market at Hayes Farm. In August, the Huntsville Business Journal reported that Publix is set to serve as the grocery anchor for The Market at Hayes Farm, a 111,233 square foot shopping center in Huntsville.

3. DURA Automotive begins $11M portion of their upcoming manufacturing facility in Muscle Shoals

• Project Cost: $11,000,000
• Project Address: 309 Count Drive, Muscle Shoals, AL
• Project: New 200,000 square-foot facility for DURA Automotive Systems.
• Owner of Project: DURA Automotive Systems
• Contractor/Builder: BC Construction Group

Last August, Michigan-based DURA Automotive Systems announced a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Inside the 200,000 square-foot facility, DURA Automotive will have advanced robotics, as well as proprietary forming & joining technologies used to create lightweight car bodies—just like those used for electric vehicles. Once complete, DURA Automotive projects that the facility will employ 279 full-time employees. DURA Automotive plans to invest $75M in the site, which it anticipates opening in April 2021.
