$27 million project at Smucker’s plant among new building permits

This past week, 10 new building permits were issued statewide for construction projects exceeding $1 million, with the majority of them for projects in North Alabama.

The largest of all of these permits, however, is in Jefferson County, where a $27 million permit was issued for the Smucker’s plant in McCalla.

The J.M. Smucker Co. opened its McCalla facility in November of 2024, producing the popular Uncrustables product. The company has committed $1.1 billion to the project, which was presented in three phases.

This recent permit, for $27 million, is for a project to support production within the existing facility, including operational continuous improvement enhancements – notably the installation of new equipment and minor modifications to accommodate this.
